DIMENSIONING WITH AUTOCAD 2000

"Fit" tab allows the user to manage dimensioning sizing and fitting for arrows, text, etc.

Of special note:  

• "Scale for Dimension Features" setting (know as "DIMSCALE" variable µ) allows the user to control 10 dimension related features at once. 

  • When plotting from model space, this value is set to plot scale. e.g. 1:10 plot scale requires a setting of 10. The default value for this setting is 1 as it assumes either of:

    • You will be plotting with paper space (Layouts)

    • You have drawn a small model that can be plotted at 1:1 plot scale from model space.

• When plotting from paper space (Layouts) choose "Scale dimensions to layout":  This is a MAJOR time saver for designers who use Layouts, also known as Paper Space.

• The 10 dimension related features (variables) managed conveniently by this one "DIMSCALE" variable are:

  • DIMASZ - Arrow SiZes

  • DIMCEN - CENter mark size for circles, arcs, ellipses.

  • DIMDLE - Dimension Line Extension

  • DIMDLI - space between baseline dimensions.

  • DIMEXE - EXtension of the Extension lines past arrows.

  • DIMEXO - EXtension Offset from the dimensioned object.

  • DIMGAP - GAP (space) between text and dimension line.

  • DIMTVP - Text Vertical Position (above dimension line)

  • DIMTSZ - Tick SiZe for architectural slashes vs. engineering arrows.  If set for value greater than 0, architectural ticks replace engineering arrows, if set to 0, arrows show.

  • DIMTXT - TeXT Ht. (IF the assigned TEXT style (say "DIMS") has a height of 0 as selected in the Text tab of the Dimension Style Manager)

•  "Text Placement" setting allows the user to choose a leader for dimension text that has to be moved away from the dimension line.
